Mad Music – Special Baby Day Edition

This was written on August 20th, in anticipation of the well-swaddled infant that blessed our family.  It had not been published when I got the call, but I will provide it to you now. Cheers, Enjoy.

It is “Baby Day”, as Megan has dubbed it, which means my brother and Michelle are getting their bundle of joy! This is a special edition of Mad Music going out to the father-to-be. Due to my own precarious male nature, I have been observing the different stages of emotion that men go through as a baby is getting ready to be born: a grandfather nervous and nostalgic, feeling the waves of fear and anticipation when it had been him in those shoes. An uncle scrambling to catch up with the too-fast spinning world, and waiting, hoping and wishing for a special place in his nephew-to-be’s. And finally the father, seemingly practicing his ability to shield his son from the complex world as he quietly gathers up all the composure he has with a cool smile on his face and a raging unknown world in his heart. With the 3rd generation Mulvihill man on the way, I feel it is appropriate to look into this dynamic with my Baby Day Playlist. Enjoy.
